You can apply for an exemption permit by completing the application form. 

Apply for a School Street exemption permit

If you wish to remove an exemption, as you have changed vehicle or changed address, please email the details, including your name, address and vehicle registration to parking.permits@sutton.gov.uk. You will need to complete a new form for your new vehicle.

Proof of residence

You will need to provide proof of residence with your application. 

If you are on the register of electors for your address, we will not need any more proof.

If you need to provide proof of residence, we will only accept:

  • a valid/current tenancy agreement
  • a Council Tax letter (must be current financial year)
  • a utility bill (gas/electric/water) no more than 3 months old
  • if you are moving into the area we will need confirmation of your new address, for example a solicitor's letter or a tenancy agreement

This evidence can be emailed to parking.permits@sutton.gov.uk.

Number of permits 

Resident exemptions are limited to 3 per household. Resident carer exemptions are limited to 2 per household.

Courtesy car

If you have a courtesy car or have to use another car, you’ll need to apply for an exemption permit for it. 

Other proof we may need

The Council will undertake periodic checks against all details provided in your application to ensure they are correct during the lifetime of the exemption permit.

We may require you to provide additional information at any time during the period of permit validity to confirm this information. 

We reserve the right to cancel the exemption permit if:

  • you don’t provide the information we request
  • if we find that any of the information is not correct or no longer meets the criteria

You do not need to provide the below with your application. However the Council may, at any time, request further evidence as below to validate the exemption by writing to you:

Proof that you are the registered keeper of the vehicle - we will only accept:

  • a copy of the vehicle registration document (V5) showing the address included on the application or 
  • an insurance document showing you as the policyholder with the address and vehicle details included on the application

If you are applying for a permit for a company car - we will only accept:

  • headed company notepaper from the company secretary (not the applicant) 
  • confirming that you have sole use of the vehicle (stating the vehicle registration number) which is kept at the address included on the application

Proof of care needs - we will only accept documentary proof of receipt of:

  • the Disability Living part of the Personal Independence Payment, Attendance Allowance or the care component of the Disability Living Allowance

OR

  • name/address of Registered Care Provider or of the person who provides the home care
  • type of Home Care received
  • frequency of Home Care received

This will typically take the form of:

  • medical letters you may have received from a hospital or GP, or 
  • any other documentary evidence you have which supports your application
    • such as a supporting letter from your formal/informal carer describing the nature and frequency of the home care they provide you

Please note your GP may charge you for supplying you with letters.
