We have prepared the following documents and maps, in line with legislative requirements and Government policy. They provide information on all sources of flooding within the Borough.
A national planning policy has been strengthened to ensure that all new developments incorporate appropriate sustainable drainage (SuDS) measures to manage surface water runoff.
Local Flood Risk Management Strategy (LFRMS)
Sutton’s LFRMS 2014-20, adopted in 2015. This sets out the Council’s vision for:
- managing flood risk across the borough and
- a programme of measures for reducing the number of homes and businesses at risk of flooding from:
- surface water
- ordinary watercourses and
- groundwater
Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA)
The SFRA Level 1 Report was published in December 2015. It provides:
- an updated assessment of all sources of flooding throughout the Borough and
- forms part of the evidence base for the Council’s planning policies and potential development sites currently being considered for inclusion in Sutton’s emerging Local Plan
Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment (PFRA)
Sutton’s PFRA was published by the Council in 2011 in line with the Flood Risk Regulations 2009.
Surface Water Management Plan (SWMP)
A SWMP was prepared by the Council in 2011 as part of the Drain London project. it identifies:
- the causes and effects of surface water flooding throughout the Borough and
- the most cost-effective methods of managing the risk
Borough Flood Risk Maps (SuDS)
interactive flood maps showing:
- areas at risk of river flooding (EA Flood Zones)
- flood warning areas and
- areas at risk of surface water flooding
You can also see detailed maps and documents published by the Council as part of the Strategic Flood Risk Assessment Level 1 Report. This shows areas at risk of flooding, such as:
