Sutton Council, in partnership with The Access Group and Medequip Connect, has won the LGC Digital Impact Award for their Technology Enabled Care service.
Sutton’s Technology Enabled Care helps people to maintain their independence and live well at home for longer. Sensors monitor their wellbeing and identify early warning signs of decline. The information from the sensors can be shared with professionals and carers (with the individual's consent) to ensure the right care and support is provided at the right time.
The LGC (Local Government Chronicle) Digital Impact Award recognises local authorities that have effectively used technology to improve their services and outcomes for residents. According to the LGC judges, the partnership between Sutton Council, The Access Group, and Medequip Connect stood out as an excellent cross-sector example of prevention, inclusivity, peace of mind for families and at a great price.
They added: “This approach will clearly save lives, enables a much more proactive service and addresses health inequalities. Everyone should have this.”
Councillor Marian James, Lead Member for Adults and Children, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to receive this award which recognises that we are leading the way in using digital technology to improve the lives of people in Sutton. Our partnership approach has been key to this and I want to congratulate The Access Group, Medequip Connect and all the staff at Sutton Council who have worked together to make it happen.”
Councillor Sunita Gordon, Lead Member for Resources, said: “It’s great to see the Council’s innovative approach to digital technology and service delivery being recognised on the national stage. We’re really proud to support London Borough of Sutton in its innovative approach to using AI-powered TEC at scale to help people live independently for longer and take preventative measures when needed. We hope the recognition from the LGC awards will showcase the fantastic results of this exemplar model, and help other councils in their journey to transform their social care services.”

We’re proud partners in this collaboration, and hope the approach in Sutton offers a blueprint for other organisations to adopt as they harness the benefits that digital technology allied with a holistic service model provides.”
