Before you apply

How to apply

You can apply from 1 September 2024.

Apply online

Keep a note of your e-Admissions username and password. You can make amendments to your applications until the closing date of 15 January 2025.

You will be able to view the outcome on the evening of 16 April 2025.

When you make your application, you are agreeing to our terms and conditions. You
can read these in full on page 11 of the Starting School Guidance booklet. The information in this booklet also applies for Junior School applications.

Other ways to apply

We recommend you apply online if possible. If you live in Sutton and want to complete a paper application form, email suttonadmissions@cognus.org.uk.

Applying in different circumstances

For more information on applying in different circumstances,  check the Starting School Guidance Booklet.

If your child has an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
You don't need to follow this process. You'll use a different admissions route with your EHCP coordinator.
If you're waiting for your child to complete an EHCP assessment, apply as normal. Attach a letter to let us know that your child is being assessed.
Read page 17 in the guidance booklet for more information on applying with an EHCP. You can also contact Sutton Information Advice and Support Service (SIASS).
If the child is looked after or previously looked after
An application may be given priority if a child is looked after by a Local Authority (or has been before). You can let us know in your online application. We will need written evidence to support this type of application.
Read page 8 to 9 in the guidance booklet for more information.
If the child has a medical or social priority
Some schools give priority to children who have a professionally supported medical or social reason to attend a particular school. We will need written evidence to support this type of application.
Read page 14 in the guidance booklet for more information.

Address to use for the application

You should use the address where your child and the adult (or adults) with legal responsibility for them live.

You must not use another address because it's convenient. This includes:

  • a future address
  • the address of a relative, friend, childminder or business
  • the address of a parent if the child doesn’t live with them for most of the week
  • using the address of a rented or second owned property on a temporary basis to gain advantage
  • a local address while the child lives overseas

All applications for school places will be address checked. If you submit your application from an address you don't live at, we can cancel your application. You will be asked to reapply using your current address.

Where a child lives with each parent for part of the week, we will need additional information.

Read page 6 in the guidance booklet for more information on what address to use.

Supplementary forms

Some schools may ask for a supplementary form with your application. For example, a faith school might need a reference from a parish priest.

The online application will tell you if they are needed. You can contact the school for more information.

In Sutton, the schools which require a supplementary form are:

  • Holy Trinity CofE Junior School
  • St Mary’s Catholic Junior School
  • The Federation of St Elphege’s Catholic Junior School
