We run several childminder training courses each year.

Apply for a childminder training course

You can send us an email with any questions.

You can apply for the course, even if you don’t live in Sutton.

Before you apply

Each course has 4 stages. You should read through this information so that you know what to expect.

Stage 1 - Application

To apply for the course, you’ll need to complete a short online application form.

Stage 2 - Literacy assessment

You’ll need to attend and pass a Literacy Assessment before you can move on to the next stage.

You’ll need to bring photo ID for proof of identity. This needs to be either a driving license or passport.

Stage 3 - Briefing session

This session will look at whether childminding is right for you and your family, such as:

  • the expectations involved
  • the registration visit
  • inspection process
  • the support available to you

Every childcare provider needs to have an understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), which contains the statutory framework and sets out the legal requirements relating to learning, development and welfare of the children in your care.

You can download a copy of the EYFS framework on GOV.UK

After the Briefing Session

If you decide you do want to become a Childminder, you’ll then be able to move onto the next stage.

Stage 4 - The Course

The course takes place over 3 full day sessions across a 6 week period. This gives you 2 weeks between each learning session to complete any set work.

You’ll need to pay for the course before it starts.
