Free childcare for 3 and 4 year olds
All 3 and 4 year olds can get up to 15 hours of free childcare and early education a week, until they go into a Reception class or reach school age.
Funding is available from the term after your child turns 3.

30 hours funded childcare for working parents
Working parents may be able to claim up to 30 hours a week for 3 and 4 year olds, from the term after the child’s third birthday. This includes the universal 15 hours of free childcare.
Check if you are eligible for 30 hours funded childcare on GOV.UK.
You’ll need to apply for a 30 hour eligibility code:
- the term before you want to access a 30 hour place and
- reconfirm your eligibility every 3 months to continue to receive the 30 hours of free childcare
You must share your 30 hour eligibility code with your chosen childcare provider before starting a place.
