Report long grass on verges, parks and open spaces
If you are concerned that a park, verge or cemetery is overgrown, you can let us know using our online form.
There may be times of the year when grass is growing so quickly across the boroughs that we struggle to keep up, despite our best efforts. This is often particularly during spring and autumn, when it’s mild and wet.
How we maintain grass
We mow approximately 438 hectares of grass across the borough including:
- bowling greens, cricket pitches and football pitches
- many miles of roadside verges
- more than 90 parks and public open spaces
- 7 cemeteries and churchyards
Grass grows at different times and at different rates depending on weather conditions It is not possible to schedule grass cutting on set frequencies. We aim to mow verges 8 times a year, approximately once a month during the growing season. We mow regularly in parks and open spaces so that sports areas are suitable for play and other areas are available for recreation. Many areas are now left to grow longer for the benefit of wildlife.
If you see an area that you think has been missed, you can report it by using the map below. Priority will be given to mowing at road junctions to maintain good sight lines.
