If you need to park somewhere you wouldn’t normally be allowed to, you can apply for a parking dispensation or suspension.

Red routes

If you live on a red route, you will need to apply to Transport for London (TfL) for a parking dispensation or suspension. We can’t grant permission on red routes.

Parking dispensation

A parking dispensation allows vehicles to park on a waiting restriction when the vehicle needs to be close to a specific location. 

For example:

  • if you are carrying out works and you need continuous access to load or unload goods or materials
  • in connection with funerals
  • domestic removals if you’re moving house

The cost is £37.30 per vehicle, per day.

Apply for a parking dispensation

You can apply for a parking dispensation online. Apply at least 2 working days before you require the dispensation to start.

Once you’ve submitted your application, we’ll contact you about how to make payment (if required).

Parking suspensions

Suspensions can be requested for a number of reasons. 

Most are put in place to undertake essential work that can't be achieved without reserving a section of the road.

We will also suspend parking bays/areas for:

  • funerals
  • weddings
  • removals
  • building work 
  • special events

When we suspend an area, we’ll put suspension signs on nearby street furniture to reserve the space for your use. On certain occasions, cones may be placed in the carriageway. 

We can issue Penalty Charge Notices if unauthorised vehicles park in the area whilst the suspension is in place. We aren't able to remove the vehicle.

Apply for a parking suspension

You can apply for a parking suspension online.

There is a £106.70 administration fee for suspensions. Funerals and domestic removals are free.

A bay suspension costs £32 per bay/per day. Unrestricted highway costs £21.30 per 100m/per day

Apply at least 7 working days before you require the suspension to start.
