It's important for councillors to know what you think about issues that affect you and your neighbourhood.
You can make them aware by:
- voting in local, London and national elections
- speaking up at committee meetings
- challenging local decision-makers on their decisions
If you are not sure where or when the Council will take a decision on a matter that interests you, contact committee.services@sutton.gov.uk or call 020 8770 4990.
How to get involved
There are many options to make sure your voice is heard.
Some of these options have formal processes that need to be followed.
Provide feedback on a service
Residents are invited to provide feedback about services by letter, phone, fax, email, or in person.
Take part in council consultations
The council regularly consults local people about the services it provides. Find out more about current consultations on Sutton's Citizenspace site.
Attend public meetings
Many meetings are open to the public to attend.
View a list of public meetings online.
Members of the public are excluded from some discussions. This can be if they're about individuals, commercial issues, or other confidential matters.
Ask a question at a committee or Council meeting
Sutton residents can ask questions at all ordinary meetings of the full Council and Local Committee meetings. Read our pages on asking a question at full Council meetings or asking a question at Local Committees.
Present a deputation
10 or more Sutton residents can present a deputation about a Council service. The topic has to already be on the meeting's agenda. Find out more about presenting a deputation.
Present a petition
Residents of Sutton are invited to present petitions to committees. Find out more about presenting a petition.
Recording meetings
Members of the public are entitled to record meetings that they're admitted to.
You can't disrupt the meeting itself, and you can only record the meeting and not the audience.
If you want to record a meeting, you must let the Committee Services contact for the meeting know.
Mobile devices can interfere with the wireless microphones and induction loop. If this happens, the Chair may require you to stop recording.
Accessible documents
All documents published by Committee Services can be provided in accessible formats.
If you would like to access a document in an alternative format, contact us by emailing committee.services@sutton.gov.uk or call 020 8770 4990.
