Theresa, Parenting and Family Support Support Worker
Theresa is employed as a Parent and Family Support Worker in Red East Locality.
‘My name is Theresa and I am a family support worker for Sutton Children’s Services. I have worked for Sutton in one capacity or another for over 23 years. I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else.
Why have I stayed so long? The LBS have provided excellent training over the years and this has enhanced my skills and knowledge greatly. This has opened up so many opportunities for me such as providing me with a specialist knowledge of parenting an domestic abuse. I became a DA champion for my team and I am passionate about it.
I have a caseload of early help cases, I work in partnership with social workers and parents and their children on CIN and CP cases. The work is varied, challenging at times but so rewarding and worthwhile. In Sutton we do our very best to safeguard children and young people.
We use a restorative approach in all we do. We are trauma informed practitioners. We can access regular restorative supervision and this has proved invaluable to the whole team.
The work is fast paced and it can be hectic at times but with the support and encouragement we get from each other including managers, it makes Sutton feel like a good place to work. Heads of service are present, approachable and available to discuss anything you think is Important.
I’ve had the privilege of working with fantastic, genuine and supportive colleagues over the years and I class them as a sort of extended family. I dread the day I leave this service. I owe Sutton so much. I would highly recommend working for Sutton Children’s Services.
Come and join us. You won’t regret it!’
