For Flats above shops only
If you live in a flat above a shop you will receive a weekly recycling and general waste collection.
On collection day
- it is important that you only place your recycling and general waste bags out for collection on the correct day
- recycling or general waste placed out on any other day of the week will be treated as fly-tipping and you may receive a fine
You can use your postcode to check your collection day.
Collection location
Make sure your recycling and rubbish bags are put out in the correct place. This might be:
- on the street outside your property
- next to the nearest litter bin to your front door

General waste
- general waste is collected every week
- all general waste should be stored in the red branded bags provided by the council
Red branded bags
- general waste must be presented in red branded bags
- any other type of bag will be treated as fly tipping and you may receive a fine
- a supply of red bags are sent to your property four times a year
What we can collect
- non-recyclable rubbish
- food waste
- wet or dirty cardboard (e.g. food-stained pizza boxes)
- plastic bags and film (please check if you can recycle these at your local supermarket)
- polystyrene
- nappies
What we can’t collect
- recycling
- electrical items
- batteries
- gas canisters
- DIY / building waste
- hazardous waste - asbestos, oil-based paints, antifreeze, chemicals, petrol
Recycling
- plastics, glass, cans and cartons are collected every week
- use the blue branded bags provided by the council
Blue branded bags
- plastics, glass, cans and cartons must be presented in these branded bags
- any other type of bag will be treated as fly tipping and you may receive a fine
- a supply of blue bags are sent to your property four times a year

- newspapers and magazines
- card and cardboard
- toilet and kitchen roll tubes
- egg boxes
- plastic bottles
- plastic pots, tubs and trays
- glass jars and bottles
- cans, tins, aerosols and tin foil
- food and drink cartons
What we can’t collect
- plastic bags
- plastic film
- rigi plastics ((toys, plant pots etc)
- dirty cardboard (e.g. food-stained pizza boxes)
- food and drink cartons
- disposable face masks
- tissue paper
- shredded paper (unless it's put in a paper bag or envelope)
- general waste
Please remember to rinse out any food or drink containers before putting them in your recycling bag.
